The F-117 Stealth Fighter was retired
in 2008 much too early. As a
low-observable test platform back in
the late 1970's the Have Blue
demonstrator aircraft was a marvel of
aeronautical engineering. Under a
cloak of extreme secrecy the F-117
first entered USAF service in 1982. It
reached Initial Operational Capability
in 1983. For the next 25 years this Star
Wars looking airplane served w/
unrivaled bombing accuracy and also
extreme popularity. When an F-117
would show up at an air show it was
always by far the star attraction .
Although it wasn't the fastest, highest
flying or as sleek as the fighters it was
always the most intriguing. This Black
Jet was actually a precision strike
bomber. One of the most , if not the
most, accurate precision strike aircraft
ever built.
