MCAS Miramar Airshow: Oct. 1 2011
 San Diego, CA. USMC Page
This year's MCAS Miramar
Airshow/Openhouse was another great
airshow.  The Marines pulled out all of
the aviation goodies an airplane nutter
could want. The USMC display was
quite extensive.  Everything was there
from the newest AH-1Z and KC-130J to
the FJ Fury and AV-8A Harrier. That's
right a Fury, Harrier, Banshee,
SkyHawks(2), Crusader,
Skyknight,Phantom II and Mig-15 were
all towed from the Flying Leatherneck
Museum and put on static display. A
very nice treat for all.  Miramar's
Hornets were well represented with all
squadrons present. Lots of Marine
helos and a couple of Ospreys were
on static also.
This years theme was 100 Years of
Naval Aviation. Several Navy Aircraft in
Retro paint schemes were on display.
This airshow might be the only time I
get to see these retro birds during The
US Navy Centienial Celebration. I was
quite impressed withT-45C Goshawks,
P-3 Orions, a  T-6 Texan, F/A-18C
Hornet and others all in retro Navy
paint schemes. Very Cool. The Navy
birds will be featured on  the Navy
Page of this Miramar section.
  The 3rd MAW Marine Air-Ground
Task Force demonstration was loud
and action packed as usual. Always
impressive. The Marines celebrated
100 years of Marine Aviation in San
Diego. A fitting tribute to this
Navy/Marine Corps community.
The USAF was featured with an F-16
West Coast Demo Team performance.
A C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III
and KC-135 Stratotanker were all on
static display. No problem beacause I
will get my USAF fix at Nellis in
November.
Another great show at Mramar. I look
forward to Miramar 2012 already.
