War Memorial of Korea: Aircraft
Display     July 2011
During my recent visit to Southeast
Asia we laid over in Seoul, S. Korea for
3 days. Seoul is a wonderful city. It's
very large (10 million people), clean,
modern and it has a very organized
traffic flow. Manila where we just left
has some of the worst unorganized
traffic I've ever seen. Manila is 3rd
world while Seoul is very modern. I still
love the Philippines.
While in Seoul I was fortunate enough
to visit The War Memorial of Korea. My
wife and I did a Seoul City  Bus Tour. It
was a wet and rainy day but we made
the best of it. Our day before was
warm w/ sunshine and we did a Seoul
Cultural Tour. We visited old Korean
palaces and a Buddhist Temple along
with other sites as well. Our guide
Gina(her tour guide name) was
superb.
The War Memorial was open to the
public. There are outside displays,
where my photo shoot took place, and
an exhibition hall that we did not enter.
It cost 3,000 won to enter the hall.
With pouring rain and overcast skies
shooting aircraft outside was a
challenge. The majority of aircraft were
out of service S. Korean A.F. types. A
B-52D and C-119 were on loan from
the U.S. A MiG-19 and an An-2 from
the N. Korean AF were also on display.
The selection of aircraft was pretty
good and they were in good shape. I
also got shots of  a few tanks and
SAMs as well.
I'm very happy I visited the War
Memorial and I hope you Enjoy the
